Show Previous Article Show Next Article i received a homebrew kit as a christmas gift from my wonderful mother in law. i've wanted one for a while and after receiving it, i found out i already had a home brewer in the family by way of my future b.i.l. michael. i picked up a double ipa kit and cooked it on sunday. it's been fermenting for three days now and the bubbles just stopped today. according to the instructions, in about two days i'll have beer. it'll be flat, uncarbonated beer, but it's still beer that i could drink. i find that pretty amazing. i always sort of assumed that beer was some magic substance that took big factories and a lot of work to create, but it only took me about three hours, and that's only because i was being overly paranoid about sterilizing everything. i bought a soda keg, or corny keg as they're called, so i don't have to deal with the hassle of bottling and can just enjoy my beer straight from the tap. the internets say i should leave my beer for another two weeks or so before i keg it. it's hard to wait that long, but the plan is to start another batch as soon as i do keg this one so i'll hopefully always have something that's ready to drink. i'm thinking either an english brown ale or milk stout is next on the docket. |
